The association can trace its roots back to 1952 when the <em>Comit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9tude des producteurs de charbon d\u2019Europe occidentale<\/em> (CEPCEO) was established. EURACOAL evolved in 2002 from the <em>Comit\u00e9 Europ\u00e9en des Combustibles Solides<\/em> (CECSO) after the expiry of the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community. See <a href=\"https:\/\/euracoal.eu\/euracoal\/history\/\">History<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<blockquote><p>EURACOAL has 25 members and observers including national coal associations, research institutes and individual companies. Representatives at EURACOAL meetings come from 14 countries: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czechia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<p>EURACOAL\u2019s mission is to highlight the importance of coal to security of energy supply, energy price stability, economic added value and environmental protection.\u00a0 EURACOAL seeks to be an active communicator, with the aim of creating an appropriate framework within which the EU coal industry and coal consumers can operate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EURACOAL<\/strong> has three active <a href=\"https:\/\/euracoal.eu\/euracoal\/structure\/\">Committees<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Energy and Environment Policy Committee<\/li>\n<li>Market Committee<\/li>\n<li>Technical Research Committee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"alignright\"><p>An active leader of many initiatives<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>EURACOAL<\/strong> is officially represented in the EU RFCS Coal Advisory Group (DG Resarch &amp; Innovation<strong>)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EURACOAL<\/strong> is an official participant in the European Commission <em>Sectoral Social Dialogue &#8211; Extractive Industries<\/em> (DG Employment, Social Affairs &amp; Inclusion).<\/p>\n<p><strong>EURACOAL<\/strong> participates in the <em>Initiative for Coal Regions in Transition<\/em>, the related <em>Just Transition Platform<\/em> and co-organised the <em>Coal Dialogue<\/em> with the European Commission\u00a0(DG Energy and DG Regional and Urban Policy).<\/p>\n<p><strong>EURACOAL<\/strong> supports the <em>Initiative for Coal Regions in Transition in the Western Balkans and Ukraine<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EURACOAL<\/strong> co-operates with Members of the European Parliament, including in the cross-party <a href=\"https:\/\/euracoal.eu\/events\/european-round-table-on-coal\/\"><em>European Round Table on Coal<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EURACOAL<\/strong> organises meetings, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/euracoal.eu\/events\/international-conferences\/\"><em>International Coal Dialogue<\/em><\/a> and other topical workshops.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EURACOAL<\/strong> is a members of the <em>European Clean Hydrogen Alliance<\/em> and the <em>European Raw Materials Alliance<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EURACOAL<\/strong> informs and works with many stakeholders, notably:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>European Commission (DG Energy, DG Research &amp; Innovation, DG Competition and DG Employment, Social Affairs &amp; Inclusion)<\/li>\n<li>European Parliament (ITRE and ENVI committees)<\/li>\n<li>European Economic &amp; Social Committee (CCMI &#8211; Consultative Commission on Industrial Change)<\/li>\n<li>International Energy Agency<\/li>\n<li>World Coal Association<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Association for Coal and Lignite &#8211; EURACOAL &#8211; is the umbrella organisation of the European coal industry.
