\/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On 17 April 2015, European Commission officials, MEP assistants and students from the College of Europe visited Garzweiler mine and Niederau\u00dfem power plant. At the mine stands one of the biggest man-made machines on earth, a 100-metre high bucket-wheel excavator that cuts thousands of tonnes of lignite in minutes. At the 950 MW power plant \u2013 the most modern in the world &#8211; the group saw the control room, the boiler, the cooling system and an experimental CO<sub>2<\/sub> removal unit. Commission and MEP assistants on an <em>Energy Tour of North Rhine-Westphalia<\/em>, including visits to Garzweiler mine and Niederau\u00dfem power plant.
