Between 2000 and 2014, the share of manufacturing in total EU output fell from 18.8% to 15.3%, while 3.5 million jobs were lost.<\/p>\n<p>For many years, the coal industry has argued that European manufacturers needs competitive electricity prices (<em>e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/euracoal.eu\/library\/publications#brochures\">A Strategy for Clean Coal<\/a><\/em> in 2012).<\/p>\n<p>The time has come to sound the alarm.\u00a0 EURACOAL, together with another 124 associations, has signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/public.euracoal.eu\/download\/Public-Archive\/Library\/Position-Papers\/Joint-Declaration-on-EU-Industrial-Strategy_Final-version_20170227.pdf\"><em>Joint Declaration<\/em><\/a> for an ambitious EU industrial strategy with the aim of growing industry&#8217;s share in European Union GDP to 20% by 2020.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pipe.euracoal.biz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/jointdeclaration_logo_jpeg-002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2719 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/pipe.euracoal.biz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/jointdeclaration_logo_jpeg-002.jpg\" alt=\"jointdeclaration_logo_jpeg-002\" width=\"5032\" height=\"3388\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Coal lies\u00a0at the heart of European manufacturing, providing\u00a0a stable, secure and competitive fuel for power generation.
